On February 21, 2020, get ready to share the love with Share Shabbat.
And it’s all thanks to our new Community Connector, Giti Fredman. Giti has long been a vibrant and welcoming member of the Minneapolis Jewish community, and she’s also had the dream of bringing Share Shabbat to fruition for a long time. But don’t take it from us—Giti can tell you herself!
“My life has been enhanced by having so many diverse, different people break bread in my home over Shabbat dinner. Something very magical happens over these dinners, and I want to share that magic with others. Here’s the concept: we’ve chosen a date (February 21) and we’re issuing a social challenge to break out of your comfort zone and share Shabbat with someone with whom you’ve never shared Shabbat before. It doesn’t have to be a stranger—it might be someone you work out with, or sit next to at your kids’ soccer practice. In the week leading up to Share Shabbat, we’ll try to pre-empt barriers with some fun interactive programming like a crash course in how to lead a Shabbat dinner, and a fun cooking class called Prep and Shlep. And by the way—this social challenge has nothing to do with observance. It’s for whether you celebrate Shabbat every week, or it’s your first time since Jewish summer camp.”
It’s a week of preparation culminating in the Shabbat itself! Here’s what it looks like:
Thursday, February 13 | Challah Bake for All! | 7–9 PM ($35)
Sunday, February 16 | Crash Course: How to Host a Shabbat Dinner | 10–11 AM (FREE)
Monday, February 17 | Family Challah Bake | 9–11 AM ($35)
Wednesday, February 19 | Prep + Schlep | 7–9 PM (Price TBA—check back for update soon!)
Friday, February 21 | SHARE SHABBAT!
