Donations will support the New Lawyer & Law Student Program Fund, a designated fund at the Jewish Community Foundation of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, which helps law students and lawyers with less than five years experience attend Twin Cities Cardozo Society events regardless of cost.

Among her many accomplishments and commitments on behalf of the Jewish people, Ms.Chazin leads a national effort to defend Israel and Jewish students on college campuses. Her organization, Students Supporting Israel, is part of a broad coalition assembled by the Minneapolis Jewish Federation and supported by your gift to the Federation.Law student and campus leader Valeria Sinelnikov Chazin will receive the Arthur T. Pfefer Memorial Award at the Annual Dinner.

Professor Irwin Cotler: The Sixteenth Annual Cardozo Society Dinner Keynote Speaker

Irwin Cotler, who is finishing his tenure as a Member of the Canadian Parliament, is Emeritus Professor of Law at McGill University, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and an international human rights lawyer.

In addition to his long and impressive resume as a champion of free speech, gender equality, freedom of religion, minority rights, marriage equality, and international justice, Professor Cotler has been recognized for his extraordinary contributions to Israel and the Jewish people. He has worked tirelessly over the years on behalf of Soviet Jewry, Ethiopian Jewry, and Jews from Arab countries; has fought anti-Semitism in its many forms, including the attempt to delegitimize the Jewish state through boycotts and lawfare; and has held numerous leadership positions in major North American and International Jewish organizations.

Professor Cotler has been named one of the ten best Jewish jurists in the world. He has been called “Freedom’s Counsel,” having defended some of history’s most prominent prisoners of conscience, including Andrei Sakharov and Nathan Sharansky, Nelson Mandela, Jacobo Timmerman, Prof. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, and Liu Xiaobo.
