If you love the Wailin Jennys, the Staves, or Beirut, check out The Nightingale Trio.
An emerging force on the global folk music scene, The Nightingale Trio is devoted to studying the rich vocal traditions of Eastern Europe and the Balkans. The trio headlines the Cedar Cultural Center this Sunday, February 18, premiering two new arrangements of Jewish women folk songs in collaboration with women composers from across the country.
The Nightingale Trio was able to arrange these songs with a grant from the Howard B. and Ruth F. Brin Jewish Arts Endowment Fund, a fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. Howard and Ruth Brin believed the arts were an essential way to enhance Jewish identity for both the artist and the Jewish community. The fund, which supports artistic creativity with Jewish content, is a memorial to this vital couple.
