Two truths about Jewish summer camp.
Number one: Jewish summer camp is incredibly important in building strong Jewish identities in children and youth.
Number two: Jewish summer camp is expensive.
In these tough financial times many families find the high cost of Jewish summer camp a barrier to ensuring the summer experience they wish for their children. In order to try to alleviate this pressure, the Minneapolis Jewish Federation makes Camp Scholarships available to families in the greater Minneapolis metropolitan area for youth participating in Jewish summer camp programs, both day camps and overnight camps. The Camp Scholarship funds aim to help families who are in need of financial assistance for camp, including both those who are and those who are not affiliated with a synagogue or other funding organization. Many entities in the Minneapolis area offer separate scholarship assistance for Jewish summer camp. You are encouraged to apply for all scholarships that you may be eligible for. For example, if you belong to a synagogue, this should be your first request for funding. If your children attend the Talmud Torah of Minneapolis, make sure that you request assistance from their scholarship fund as well. In addition, some camps offer their own scholarships, and families are strongly encouraged to explore this funding option. No one entity is likely to be able to provide full funding for a child, so it is in your best interest to apply for all that is available.
The Minneapolis Jewish Federation will continue to use the Minneapolis Jewish Community Standardized Camp Scholarship Application form. A number of local scholarship-granting entities will also be accepting this form. The purpose of a common form is for you to be able to fill out information once and then send photocopies to those agencies, camps and synagogues that accept this common application form. Click here for the application form.
We understand that asking for assistance may be difficult. We do our best to make this process as easy, confidential and fair as possible. At the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, the scholarship process is name-blind, meaning that only the camp scholarship staff will see any of the information on your application attached to your name.
Once scholarships are awarded, families are notified and funds are paid directly to the camps once camper registration is verified.
